Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language

Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should provide their own tools as per the TTC’s established tool list
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have completed college-level courses related to upholstery, demonstrating the ability to operate various types of sewing machines and related equipment, read and interpret patterns and design specifications, adhere to safety practices, estimate, measure, layout, and cut fabric, or have a minimum of one year of practical work experience as an upholsterer in the upholstery industry
- The candidates should have demonstrated ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
- The candidates should pass the Department’s test, which corresponds in content to the knowledge, theory, and practical requirements set out above
- The candidates should attend and successfully complete the Training Department’s programs for Safety Orientation or Surface Maintenance
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform routine and varied upholstery and repair work on vehicles, vehicle seating, pieces of furniture, and miscellaneous articles using various types of fabrics rubber, vinyl, plastic, woven and linoleum
- The candidates should be able to set up and operate computerized and industrial sewing machines
- The candidates should be able to perform daily and weekly maintenance on various sewing machines and related equipment
- The candidates should be able to lay out, measure, and cut upholstery following design specifications or patterns
- The candidates should be able to replace worn springs and other parts on furniture, seats, and other items
- The candidates should be able to install and replace padding and underlay and affix fastening covering materials to frames
- The candidates should be able to cut and assemble hand-sewn articles such as bags and tool bags
- The candidates should be able to prepare sketches with measurements and make upholstery patterns for new and replacement items
