Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to attend and successfully complete various training courses, including Ozone Depletion Certification, computerized building automation systems, operation of a TTC vehicle, Subway/SRT Rule Book, WHMIS certification, forklift truck operation, motorized lifting devices, fall protection, and handling dangerous goods
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess a valid Province of Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic (313-A) issued by the Ontario College of Trades, typically obtained through Grade 12 education and successful completion of the apprenticeship program
- The candidates should hold a valid Gas Technician 1 Certificate accredited by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA), with valid Gas Technician 2 and 3 Certificates as prerequisites
- The candidates should demonstrate proficiency in working with computerized HVAC control and management systems
- The candidates should communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and maintain a valid non-probationary Province of Ontario Class “G” driver’s license
- The candidates should keep up with evolving technology and techniques through supplementary training courses as required by the TSSA and those provided by HVAC equipment manufacturers and contractors
- The candidates should acquire or demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders, including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform varied and complex mechanical maintenance, testing, installation, inspection, repair, and overhaul work on a variety of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems located in and external to Commission buildings
- The candidates should be able to work on systems that include heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, and associated equipment such as pumps, compressors, humidifiers, chillers, air conditioners, heat pumps, boilers, gas burners, furnaces, unit heaters, make-up air units, propane equipment, and exhaust fans, along with air or water flow and temperature controls, and building control systems
- The candidates should be able to drive a vehicle to transport crew, tools, parts, and equipment to work locations
- The candidates should be able to treat passengers and employees with respect and dignity and ensure the needs of passengers and employees with disabilities are accommodated and addressed (within the area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service provider and employer
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate behaviors that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment, helping to remove barriers and accommodate employees and customers (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with TTC’s commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC’s policies
