Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the French or English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a bachelor’s degree in nursing and BScN
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage crisis situations, supporting and intervening in dysregulated behaviors
  • The candidates should have the ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds
  • The candidates should be able to work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • The candidates should possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate and preference given to RNs with certification in Psychiatric or Mental Health Nursing through the Canadian Nurses Association (CAN)
  • The candidates should have specialized clinical experience working with complex and challenging youth and their families
  • The candidates should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop therapeutic nurse-patient relationships
  • The candidates should have effective leadership, decision-making, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • The candidates should be computer literate and be bilingual (French or English) and proficient in a second language
  • The candidates should complete a Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check upon offer and acceptance of employment; the offer will be conditional upon receiving a satisfactory check

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide client-centered psychiatric, addictions, and general nursing care, including managing admission processes, withdrawal management, client assessments, care plan development, care implementation, medication and treatment administration, and family support
  • The candidates should be able to contribute to unit or program development, support unit and CAMH processes, and assist with the program’s evaluation and research activities
  • The candidates should be able to support evidence-based models of care and programming, such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • The candidates should be able to make behavioral observations, conduct mental status assessments, monitor patient responses to pharmaceutical and other therapy interventions, and provide quality clinical documentation with ongoing effective communication within the team
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate sound knowledge of crisis prevention and intervention, mental health and addiction issues, harm-reduction, child development, trauma-informed care, recovery, and family-informed care
  • The candidates should be able to perform thorough assessments, develop, implement, and evaluate inter-professional client-centered care plans, support clients in establishing and working toward their goals, and participate effectively in inter-professional collaboration and teamwork
  • The candidates should be able to engage in self-reflection and continuous learning, behaving as an ambassador for professional conduct and CAMH values
  • The candidates should be able to support clients in transitioning to other services, liaising with other CAMH services and community agencies to coordinate care, and sustain positive working relationships with internal and external partners
  • The candidates should be able to ensure that security, safety, and CNO standards of nursing practice are maintained, work effectively with adolescent clients and families from diverse populations, and provide educational support and supervision to students and volunteers
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate a commitment to accountability, critical thinking, reflective practice, and continuous learning while supporting a healthy workplace that embraces diversity and complies with all policies and regulatory requirements
