Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the French and English Language
Education: Candidates should have a registered member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certification
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have demonstrated the ability to provide effective behavioral support and intervene in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behavior
  • The candidates should have the ability to perform assessments, including mental status, physical, and behavioral evaluations

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess be actively pursuing, a B.Sc.N, CNA certification in Psychiatric or Mental Health Nursing or Gerontology
  • The candidates should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop the Nurse-Client relationship, provide family-sensitive care, and work effectively within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team
  • The candidates should be able to monitor client responses to pharmacological and other interventions and communicate effectively with team members
  • The candidates should have sound knowledge of Gerontology and geriatric mental health nursing and knowledge of crisis intervention, addictions, and trauma-informed care
  • The candidates should possess effective leadership, decision-making, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • The candidates should have knowledge of normal aging processes, geriatric mental health, geriatric treatment modalities, and addiction issues
  • The candidates should have mental health and psychiatric nursing experience with seniors with mental illness and addictions
  • The candidates should be able to work with clients from diverse cultural and social backgrounds, be computer literate and Bilingualism (French and English) and proficiency in a second language

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to ensure the safety and security of the client care environment, adhering to the College of Nurses of Ontario professional standards and relevant Canadian standards for psychiatric-mental health and gerontological nursing
  • The candidates should be able to practice in accordance with CAMH Policies and Procedures and follow the CAMH Practice Model of Care
  • The candidates should be able to perform assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate inter-professional plans of care for older adults with complex mental health and addiction issues
  • The candidates should be able to manage behavioral challenges and consider physical health complications in their approach to client care and liaise with other Geriatric Mental Health Services and community agencies to ensure coordinated and comprehensive client care
  • The candidates should be able to apply critical thinking and a problem-solving process to provide effective care and enhance service delivery and contribute to program development and participate in clinical supervision to ensure continuous improvement in care standards
  • The candidates should be able to provide education, support, and supervision to students, fostering learning and professional development
  • The candidates should be able to participate in the research activities of the program, contributing to knowledge and best practices
  • The candidates should be able to co-facilitate various client groups, enhancing client engagement and support and support a healthy workplace environment that values diversity, promotes teamwork, and ensures compliance with legislative and regulatory standards
  • The candidates should be prepared to work shifts, including weekends, as required by the position’s schedule and perform duties on-site at the specified location, 80 Workman Way
