Requirements:

  • The candidates should have broad experience in providing engineering, design, analysis services in the two following areas Conventional P and C system implementation with protection relay, control and automation, gateway, LAN or WAN, and related services and IEC61850 Digital Substation implementation
  • The candidates should possess broad technical knowledge and experience with utility protection relay standard development and related IEEE and IEC protection standards and configuring protection relays, Metering, electrical mechanical protection relay systems, intelligent electronic devices, gateways, routers, switches, LAN networking, analog or digital networking, RTU or SCADA IEC61850
  • The candidates should have previously provided design functions or technical engineering support for P and C System equipment or other related systems such as protection relays, teleprotection, supervisory control, telemetry, or related systems
  • The candidates should have performed planning, design, implementation, and commissioning of protection relays or P and C systems or equipment
  • The candidates should have experience in performing thorough tests in the Protection and Control systems in a laboratory and field environment. This includes solid knowledge in preparing test plans and the use of applicable test equipment and regulatory requirements (IESO and NPCC)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide engineering, design, analysis and support services in the area of protection and control, covering implementation with both conventional IED and IEC61850 standard on Digital Substation
  • The candidates should be able to review existing P and C protection relay designs and practices, work methods standards, updating and preparing new documented design standards, recognizing opportunities for the introduction of new technology, and recommend changes to reduce costs and increase productivity
  • The candidates should be able to prepare and evaluate tenders and evaluate and assess new protection relay equipment or technology and document results and findings in high-quality reports and collaborate with peers in the Standards Team to prepare standard design interfaces for protection standards to operate on IEC61850 station and process bus architecture
  • The candidates should be able to support protection, control and network design work for complex Protection projects and understand and effectively interface with existing P and C facilities typically found in a power utility transformer station as part of the P and C design work
  • The candidates should be able to provide a broad range of expert protection technical expertise and knowledge in the design, construction, installation, reliability analysis, commissioning, implementation, and maintenance of protection and control technologies
  • The candidates should be able to interact, as required, with various groups such as Protection Design group, Control Design group, Telecom Design group, OGCC-Operating Facilities technical team, P and C Technical Services, Field P and C, Construction forces, ITMC, and System Investment Planning to provide expert technical leadership with respect to protection relay standards used for the power system
  • The candidates should be able to ensure overall and day-to-day Dept. objectives and performance are met and in compliance with NPCC, NERC CIP, IESO Market rules, and other regulatory requirements and assist in monitoring equipment performance and compliance with regulatory requirements, investigate problems, and initiate corrective action
  • The candidates should be able to provide expert technical leadership to vendor’s staff and Field P and C with respect to testing of protection relay systems and other ancillary equipment
  • The candidates should be able to provide contract monitoring of vendor installation crews and provide inspection and work craft quality assessment of vendor equipment installations (both for pilot installations and project installations) and assist in initiating and administering work programs and budgets
