Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Grade 12 education
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have its recognized equivalent as determined by the assessment of education credentials by the TTC Operations Training Centre
  • The candidates should be able to attend and successfully complete all portions of the training to sustain the trainee status
  • The candidates should be able to comprehend verbal and written instructions, demonstrated by the ability to understand and follow published operating or safety regulations
  • The candidates should be able to speak clearly to exchange information and instructions with the Control Centres
  • The candidates should have a valid class “G” province of Ontario driver’s license, or better, and be able to pass the written and practical tests required for a class “DZ” driver’s license
  • The candidates should have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and related Orders, including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to receive training on the maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair work performed on tangent, curved, and special track work, track switches, and switch components, track bed, and track accessories
  • The candidates should be able to learn and apply skills required to perform scheduled, running, and emergency repairs to track work and components such as turn-outs, frog castings, rails, slip switches, mechanical and electro-mechanical switching equipment, and the track bed or invert
  • The candidates should be able to set up and operate rail bending equipment and assemble or adjust to ensure proper fit
  • The candidates should be able to receive training on maintenance and troubleshooting of defective or inoperative track lubrication systems or equipment, small tools, and snow removal components, and report and log all track-related issues to Supervisory staff
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate behaviors that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment, removing barriers and accommodating employees and customers in accordance with TTC’s commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC’s policies
