Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in related field; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience: Candidates should have minimum of 4 years’ experience in website design and digital media design. Experience in designing websites; understanding of website usability and user experience principles

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be knowledgeable and experienced in applying usability and accessible web design practices
  • The candidates should have knowledge and experience with web technologies, languages, and tools such as PHP and MySQL, HTML, HTML5, CSS, XML, XSL, Browser DOMs, JavaScript, and jQuery
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, and InDesign, which would be an asset
  • The candidates should have knowledge in developing with ExpressionEngine, which would be an asset
  • The candidates should demonstrate web design skills, including layout, typography, graphic design principles, and color theory
  • The candidates should have experience working in compliance with accessibility legislation (AODA/WCAG), which would be an asset
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) strategies and tactics
  • The candidates should have experience with analytic and advertising platforms such as Google Analytics, AdWords, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, Facebook Business Manager, etc.
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment in a busy, deadline-oriented workplace

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to build and maintain the Hart House website, designing templates and web layouts, ensuring brand and accessibility standards are consistently met
  • The candidates should be able to verify that all digital communication collateral adheres to University style guidelines
  • The candidates should be able to create and edit web pages with interactive media, advising on best practices and strategies for content marketing supporting brand communications
  • The candidates should be able to make recommendations for the development of visual expression/layout of digital assets and ensure consistency of appearance among digital assets
  • The candidates should be able to stay well-informed on current technologies, best practices, and industry standards, coordinating website updates, and resolving technical issues
  • The candidates should be able to advise others on website design and content, ensuring alignment with marketing/communication objectives
  • The candidates should be able to test the website before launching new additions, resolve minor complaints and requests related to technical errors, and refer larger issues when appropriate
  • The candidates should be able to check that website design and usability practices meet industry standards, liaise with website users regarding usability feedback, and analyze digital analytic report data
  • The candidates should be able to recommend the purchase of equipment and supplies and serve as a resource to others by providing (non-supervisory) job-related guidance
