Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of a grade 12
Experience: Candidates should have 2 to 3 years experience working directly with the public in Healthcare or travel industry
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be aware that incumbents spend 90% of their time making medical travel arrangements by telephone or in person, potentially exposing them to neck and shoulder pain
- The candidates should be comfortable working in a crowded and busy office environment, where direct contact with sick patients may expose them to illnesses
- The candidates should demonstrate strong multitasking abilities and the capacity to prioritize tasks effectively, sometimes needing to focus amidst background conversations
- The candidates should be prepared for mentally stressful work involving complex communication with anxious health professionals and the public, often in emergency situations
- The candidates should possess patience, tact, and sound judgment, including familiarity with non-violent crisis intervention techniques, due to occasional verbal abuse and rare instances of physical risk
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have knowledge of the NWT Health & Social Services system, Canada Health Act, NWT geography, cultures, and the transportation industry
- The candidates should possess good written and verbal communication skills, along with excellent telephone communication abilities
- The candidates should exhibit good decision-making abilities, exceptional computer skills and demonstrate organization and time management skills
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to contact medical or medevac personnel on-call and relay patient information
- The candidates should be able to contact the air carrier and record details such as the aircraft being dispatched, patient and escort names, and destination
- The candidates should be able to contact ambulance service providers to advise them of patient pickup and drop-off times and locations, if an ambulance
- The candidates should be able to contact the applicable interpreter and fax the Patient Medical Travel Form to the Language Services office at Stanton Hospital
- The candidates should be able to plan, coordinate, and arrange patient and/or escort travel with taxi contractors, hospitals, health centers, boarding homes, and other medical travel-related units
- The candidates should be able to complete and authorize medical travel authorizations, preparing authorizations for data entry noting benefits codes and maintain records of patient and/or escort travel for reference and audit purposes
- The candidates should be able to determine and explain medical travel benefits according to the GNWT Medical Travel Policy and related policies, directives, and acts to patients, family members, and other interested parties
- The candidates should be able to create the Case Report in the Health Management Information System (HMIS) with all patient and escort information to print an authorization for the Travel Agency to book travelers on scheduled flights
- The candidates should be able to plan, coordinate, and arrange patient and escort travel with taxi contractors, ambulance services, air carriers, scheduled air carriers, contracted travel agency, hospitals, health centers, boarding homes, and other medical travel-related units
- The candidates should be able to maintain records of patient and escort travel for reference and audit purposes while maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with policy
