Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed Grade 12 (technical program)
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should pass a physical assessment, including the ability to lift and carry bags of supplies and revenue while walking and climbing or descending stairs
- The candidates should be required to wear a protective vest as needed and be able to work with minimal supervision and with a contracted armed guard
- The candidates should successfully complete Surface and Subway Rulebook training and recertification, and attend and successfully complete the Loss Prevention Section’s training for robbery prevention and other departmental training related to the work procedures, safety and security practices)
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have an equivalent, as determined by the Training Department, and have post-secondary trade subjects in machine shop practice, electrical theory, and MIG/TIG welding
- The candidates should have successfully completed courses in electrical theory comparable to those offered in Part 1 of the Vehicle Electricians Program
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, communicate effectively, write legibly, and possess basic mathematical skills
- The candidates should have good keyboarding skills and the ability to operate a desktop and laptop computer, handheld devices, and related software applications spreadsheets, MS Office, and database systems
- The candidates should have a valid, non-probationary Class “G” or better Ontario Driver’s License and must attend and successfully complete the Training Department’s instruction and testing for the operation of TTC vehicles, including armoured vehicles
- The candidates should pass tests set by the Revenue Operations Department that correspond in content to the knowledge, theory, and practical requirements described above
- The candidates should pass the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) check as directed by the Revenue Operations Loss Prevention section
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform varied and moderately complex mechanical and electrical fabrication and repair work on small to medium stationary machines, locking devices, ticket registers, farebox pedestals, vaults and receivers, fare processing equipment, clock mechanisms, and related controls and devices for revenue and security equipment
- The candidates should be able to carry out precise fabrication, fitting, assembly, disassembly, overhaul, repair, modification, inspection, and cleaning of machines, devices, parts, and controls in the Greenwood shop or on location at any TTC property
- The candidates should be able to conduct locksmithing work involving the repair, installation, and adjustment of lock mechanisms, including electronic keypads and locking mechanisms
- The candidates should be able to operate a variety of metalworking machines, welding equipment, and electrical apparatus while using a range of materials
- The candidates should be able to diagnose, adjust, redesign, and test mechanisms and controls
